12 TSA-Friendly Beauty Essentials I Never Travel Without

Looking for some TSA-friendly beauty essentials? Check out my top picks!
We travel quite a bit, so streamlining how we pack has become essential.
Over the years, we’ve adjusted our routine more than once to keep up with changing travel norms. One of the biggest shifts was the introduction of TSA’s liquid restrictions.
Sure, I could toss everything into checked luggage and call it a day, but that doesn’t work for me.
Between baggage fees, weight limits, and the very real possibility of delayed (or lost) luggage, it’s just not worth the risk.
Being without my go-to beauty products simply isn’t an option.
So I’ve narrowed things down to my favorite TSA-friendly beauty essentials I never leave home without and I’m sharing them here, along with a few smart packing tips to help you travel lighter and more efficiently.
Understanding TSA Liquid Rules
You’ve probably heard of the 3-1-1 rule for carry-on liquids. It’s an easy way to remember what you can bring through airport security:
- 3.4 oz (100 ml) maximum per item
- 1 quart-size clear bag
- 1 bag per traveler
So what counts as a “liquid”? In addition to obvious items like shampoo or lotion, security includes gels, creams, aerosols, and pastes. That means things like mascara and lip gloss need to go in your clear bag, too.
There are a few exceptions.
Medically necessary liquids (including prescriptions), baby items such as formula, and sealed duty-free purchases are typically allowed in larger quantities if sealed.

Favorite TSA-Friendly Beauty Product Recommendations
As much as I wish I could bring all my favorite beauty products on every trip, it’s just not practical.
Some products don’t come in travel sizes, while others come in glass bottles that are too heavy to tote around from one place to another.
This list is comprised of only the essentials I never leave home without and the ones I always make sure fit in my carry-on.
1. Korres Greek Yogurt Face Cleanser 2.53 oz

The Korres Greek Yogurt Face Cleanser is my go-to cleanser. It’s gentle, has great foaming action and a little goes a long way.
At around $20, it’s reasonably priced for the 2.53 oz size which is well within the TSA size restrictions. If you’re heading out for a long weekend, the mini 0.68 oz version is ideal and costs about $10.
I’ve tried other face cleansers over the years that were way more expensive and I always end up coming back to this one. It just works.

2. YSE Beauty – Your Favorite Ex™ Travel Size

I recently discovered YSE Beauty’s Your Favorite Ex™ exfoliating pads, and honestly, it’s now my all-time favorite beauty essential, a total workhorse.
I was thrilled when they released a travel-size version for $17. It comes with seven large exfoliating pads, making it perfect for short getaways or longer trips, depending on how often you exfoliate.
I have a mild case of rosacea, and I’ve noticed these pads really help to keep it under control.
Of course, this is just my personal experience and not medically proven, but for me, the difference is noticeable.

3. YSE Beauty – The Overachiever Eye Masks

Overnight flights can really throw off your sleep schedule and I rarely manage to get a full night’s sleep on them.
That’s where another YSE Beauty essential comes in. “The Overachiever” eye masks are great for reducing dark circles and puffiness while you’re traveling.
Since they’re recommended for use 3–4 times a week, a pack of six is perfect for a trip of up to two weeks.

4. Burts Bees Lip Balm

I’ve tried what feels like every lip balm out there, and none of them really worked for me, until I tried Burt’s Bees.
Most others had me reapplying nonstop, which drove me crazy.
Burt’s Bees lip balm actually lasts for hours. I usually toss a few into my bag when I travel, because losing one (or two) along the way is practically a given.

5. MoroccanOil Hairspray

I stopped using hairspray for years because I couldn’t stand the stiff, crunchy feeling it left behind.
On a whim, I decided to try Moroccanoil, and I’ve been using it ever since. It gives hold without that crunchy texture, and the scent is amazing.
It reminds me of something from when I was a kid but I still haven’t figured out what. I’ll let you know if it ever comes to me.
The travel-size version is perfect for slipping into your carry-on.

6. In Your Face – The Cream .5 oz or 2 oz

This is another product that I stumbled upon recently. My skin gets extremely dry during the harsh New England winter months and this is the moisturizer I reach for all the time.
Traveling tends to dry out my skin too so I make sure to bring The Cream with me wherever I go.
I actually use The Cream and Marine Pearl Cream. You could technically take the regular 2 oz size of either one in your carry on but The Cream also comes in a .5 oz travel size which is probably sufficient unless you’re taking an extended vacation.
You may be thinking that the .5 oz doesn’t sound like much, but, trust me, a little goes a long way.
If you’re not sure which one you would prefer, I can tell you that The Cream has a heavier consistency so when I’m at home, I tend to use this at night.
The Marine Pearl Cream is much lighter so I tend to use this one in the morning before applying my makeup.

7. Touchland Hand Sanitizer 1 oz

Hand sanitizer is a travel essential for me and I always keep it within easy reach. My favorite is Touchland because it comes in so many great scents.
It’s a big upgrade from the harsh antiseptic smell most brands have, and it gets bonus points for the protective keyring case you can clip onto your bag.

8. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen 1.7 oz

I wear sunscreen on my face year-round, and Supergoop is my go-to. It goes on completely invisible, offers SPF 40 or 50 protection, and feels incredibly lightweight on the skin.
Unlike many sunscreens, it doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue or that heavy, coated feeling, which makes it perfect to apply before makeup.
It layers smoothly, almost like a primer, so everything goes on evenly and stays put throughout the day.
Super Goop is one of those everyday essentials I never skip, whether I’m sightseeing for hours, sitting by the pool, or just out running errands in the sun.

9. YSE Beauty – Instant Glow Trio

I’ve already mentioned how much I love YSE Beauty’s Your Favorite Ex™ exfoliating pads but if you’re looking for a complete morning routine for when you’re traveling, I love the Instant Glow Trio.
It includes handy travel sizes of my three favorite YSE Beauty products: Your Favorite Ex™ Exfoliating Pads, Morning Cocktail Vitamin C Serum, and Mini Skin Glow SPF 30 Primer.

10. Living Proof Dry Shampoo & Texture Spray
When you’re on the go and short on time, dry shampoo and texture spray can be a lifesaver. Whether it’s a long travel day, an early tour, or a quick refresh before dinner, it can make all the difference
I’ve tried countless options over the years, but I keep coming back to Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo and Dry Volume & Texture Spray
The dry shampoo actually absorbs oil and refreshes your hair rather than just masking it with fragrance. It’s also one of the few brands that doesn’t leave behind a chalky white residue or heavy buildup.
Another reason I love it for travel is the fresh, clean scent and the convenient travel-size version, which makes it easy to toss in a carry-on for quick touch-ups on the go.
The texture spray is perfect for when you need to add a little volume after a long travel day.

11. Bumble and Bumble Shampoo and Conditioner 2 oz

Whenever I use the same shampoo for too long, my hair tends to develop a buildup, which is why I used to rotate between multiple brands.
That changed once I tried Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner. Since switching, I haven’t had the same buildup issues.
I still experiment with other products from time to time, but this pair has remained my reliable go-to especially when I’m traveling.

12. Clear TSA Compliant Toiletry Bag

The last item on my list isn’t really a beauty product but it does go along with everything I’ve mentioned.
I’ve always hated using a quart-sized storage bag for my carry-on items. They don’t have a lot of structure so everything tends to go all over the place during travel.
I recently invested in a TSA compliant toiletry bag which has made things a little easier to keep organized. It’s nothing fancy but it does the trick.

Packing Tips for Carry-On Only Travelers
Packing beauty products in a carry-on doesn’t have to mean giving up your favorites. With a little planning (and the right sizes), you can keep your routine intact without overstuffing your bag. Here are a few easy tips to make it work:
- Use a clear pouch: It makes security quicker and keeps everything easy to grab mid-flight.
- Stick to travel sizes: Choose TSA-approved minis or decant your go-to products into small reusable containers.
- Try Some Solid Products: Solid shampoo bars, cleansing balms, and stick deodorant save precious liquid space. I don’t personally use these but I know some people that do and they seem to like them.
- Keep it simple: Bring only what you’ll realistically use
FAQs
TSA restrictions can be a little confusing sometimes so here are answers to some common questions.
Does my makeup have to be in a clear bag for TSA?
If the makeup is a liquid, gel, cream, aerosol or paste, it needs to be in a clear quart-sized bag.
What are TSA requirements for skincare?
If your skincare items are considered liquids, they’ll need to be placed in a clear quart-sized bag. Each item can’t be more than 3.4 oz.
Is mascara considered a gel by TSA?
Mascara is considered a liquid by TSA standards so this will need to be put into the one clear quart-sized bag.
